In 2015, Kimley-Horn and 12 other professional service firms working on the Blue Line Light Rail Transit (BLRT) Extension project saw a unique opportunity to engage with over 20 public schools located within a one-mile radius of the corridor. Wanting to further serve their community, the BLRT project team came together to create a new volunteer program called蓝色大学(Blue U). In this program, experienced professionals educate local schools on the real-life applications of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to inspire future generations of engineers, transit planners, architects and construction professionals in Minnesota.
At Braun Intertec, we believe ingiving backto our communities and are proud to support this program as a member of the BLRT team. Braun Intertec has volunteered with Blue U on several occasions, hosting booths at conferences and science fairs, facilitating mock interviews at high schools and leading middle and elementary school students through hands-on demonstrations. Most recently, our very own Jeff Segar spoke to a graduate engineering class at the University of St. Thomas about our work on the TH 53 Minnesota DOT project in Virginia, MN.
Once complete, the BLRT Extension corridor will serve the communities of Minneapolis, Robbinsdale, Crystal, New Hope, Golden Valley, and Brooklyn Park by providing a safe, economically friendly, and efficient way of traveling in the Twin Cities area.
